Seuss Week

In honor of Dr. Seuss' Birthday on March 2nd and Read Across America Day we will be celebrating with a fun filled week of Seuss!! I am a little bit of a fan... just a little... OK a huge fan of all things Seuss! So, this is my favorite week of the year! Today was Cat in the Hat Day. We read the book, had a special breakfast, and snack inspired by his famous red and white hat! For art we gave his hat a makeover with markers, crayons, and paint dobbers. We played Seuss Memory and dressed in red and white or/and wore hats! Tomorrow is Green Eggs and Ham  Day dress in green. Our letter of the week is O. We learned it in sign language and talked about things that begin with the letter O.

Kids in the Kitchen

What a day!! We have had so many kiddos hit with a stomach bug, so please watch for that this weekend. All of our toys will be getting sanitized as soon as we get our water back. Our hot water heater went out and we have been without water all day. We were going to cook today and make homemade strawberry shortcake to go with my favorite food book Cook-a-doodle-doo. Since we couldn't cook I promised the kids we would make it one day next week. We instead talked about ways to stay safe in the kitchen when we are helping and "cooked" in our play kitchen. Have a great weekend! Hopefully we will have water and everyone will be feeling better on Monday!

Happy Birthday Miss Vicki!!! We love you! We played Simon Says to work on our listening skills, they took turns being Simon. We "cooked" with play dough! They made some great food and drinks! We had a lot of cookies, carrots, apples, oranges, hot chocolate, lemonade... I heard a lot of talk about healthy and sometimes food during their play!

Kids in the Kitchen

Wednesday we learned the difference between healthy and sometimes food. Just because something isn't healthy, doesn't mean you should never eat it, but you should only eat it sometimes. They were great at this! We first made a chart at Circle Time and then for our group activity we dumped all of our kitchen food and sorted it in baskets marked healthy and sometimes.
