Cinco de Mayo

Here is a little history of Cinco de Mayo according to the following website: http://www.history.com/topics/holidays/cinco-de-mayo “Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.” We counted in Spanish to 10 and read a book teaching us how to say our colors in Spanish called Colores de la vida. We talked about how the sun is popular in Spanish art and drew pictures in which many of the children decided to include the sun. We also had tacos for lunch and s special treat of doughnuts for breakfast. Thank you to "N's" for the special treat!
